Library Snapshots
Epic
EPIC is a collection of databases for students. Resources include reference material, full-text of newspapers, magazines and journals, audio and video on a wide range of topics, suitable for all ages. Students can access this database from home through the school web page.
Anzac Day
During ANZAC Week students visiting the library had the opportunity to sample what was a familiar meal for many of our soldiers in the trenches during World War 1.
Buddy Reading
Every week our B2 class gets together with our B4's for a buddy reading session. Older students read to the younger students.
Duffy’s Books in Homes
a. Duffy Role Model AssembliesOur School is one of the many lucky schools to be part of the Duffy Books in Homes Programme. b. Duffy’s Theatre
Every year, two groups of travelling actors journey from North Cape to Bluff bringing the message It's Cool to Read and Cool to Achieve to tens of thousands of Duffy kids.The Duffy Theatre first performed in 1997 when the programme was in its infancy. Now, with over 500 schools to reach each year this exciting live 45 minute show has become a Duffy institution and a highlight of many school calendars.Here are some snap shots of Duffy’s Theatre performing at Reefton Area School.

Visiting Authors
Ken Catran, New Zealand author visited our school and ran a ‘Writers Workshop’ for our Gifted and Talented students.
Mark Laurent, a New Zealand author and musician came to share his books and songs with our junior students5. Grandparents
Each Friday afternoon Grandparents help our younger students to read.

6. Information Landscape
During these library spells student's are developing skills in information literacy. In this activity our student's are locating information from posters and recording their findings as notes/diagrams and with graphic organisers.
Competitions
a. Mobile Dental Unit Design CompetitionOne of our Year 11 students won the overall competition to create a design for the Mobile Dental Unit. This unit replaces the current small dental clinics’ used in schools.
School Dental Nurses will treat school students from rural areas in this new Mobile Dental Unit.

b. Project Takahe
These two lucky artists won the regional section of the Project Takahe Drawing Competition. They had to draw takahe in their natural environment. Both winners are wearing takahe T shirts as part of their prize.
