Reefton Area School, students benefit from a comprehensive curriculum encompassing core subjects like  English, Maths, Science, & Health fostering a well-rounded understanding of the world. Our commitment to education extends to nuture teamwork and resilience. We offer practical courses in Hard Materials, Hospitality, Catering & an array of other opportunities, providing hands-on skills relevant to various industries. Through partnerships with The West Coast's Trade Academy, students explore vocational pathways from construction to hospitality management. Additionally, our Gateway programs offer structured workplace learning, while distance learning broadens access to diverse subjects.

Distance Learning

At Reefton Area School, students are empowered with an educational experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional classroom settings through the provision of distance learning opportunities. By embracing distance learning, Reefton Area School expands the horizons of its students, offering access to a diverse array of subjects that might not be readily available within the local community. Through partnerships with institutions such as Te Kura students can delve into a wide spectrum of subjects tailored to their individual interests and career aspirations. This expansive curriculum not only broadens students' academic horizons but also fosters a sense of exploration and self-discovery as they navigate through various disciplines. .

Trades Academy

Reefton Area School participates in the West Coast Trades Academy (WCTA). Reefton Area School is partnered with the Academy, with tertiary partners including Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP), Whenua Iti Outdoors (WIO), Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT), and Papa Taiao Earthcare. As part of the Government's youth initiatives, trades academies offer increased options for young New Zealanders, providing them with enhanced opportunities to cultivate their knowledge, skills, and talents through trades and technology programs offered jointly by schools and tertiary education organizations. 

Gateway

Reefton Area School extends a valuable opportunity to its students through the Gateway Programme, facilitating structured workplace learning experiences. This initiative enables students to immerse themselves in real-world environments, gaining hands-on skills and knowledge while simultaneously working towards industry-related credits for their NCEA qualifications. By partnering with local businesses and organizations, Reefton Area School ensures that its students have access to diverse learning experiences tailored to their interests and career aspirations. Through the Gateway Programme, students at Reefton Area School not only broaden their academic horizons but also develop essential practical skills that prepare them for the challenges of the workforce.
